The Plasticine Period?
What are they called this era in the future? I used to think it was going to be The Information Age, as that was our contribution to society. Now I think it will be known as The Plastic Age. Plastithic? Neoplasticine? Paleoplastacene?
When digging through our history, one would find the evidence of our plastic obsession in every arena of our lives. They’ll sift through the ashes, they’ll find our charred, cheap sunglasses.
However, they’ll also find out about our shift to focus on the plasticity of our minds. We reshape our surroundings with permanent scars, and we perservere because we are the most adaptable species on Earth. And if we don’t survive the mess we’ve created, then who cares, right?
P.S. Perhaps we can view humanity as a generational thing. In the long span of the universe, maybe a species goes through an a growth period (like a human does), produces/prepares/proviedes for the next generation of that species?
What we are doing now is leaving nothing for future species-generations. We need to look at a larger scale when we plan. Think of what we will leave for the children, but know that those children are the next evolutionary step of humans.
